The most unreached tribes of North Vietnam
Of the 52 recognized minority people groups in Vietnam, 16 groups have no Christians at all! Yet, most of these have large numbers living in other countries, like China and Laos, where they may have a percentage of believers. However, seven of these tribes live predominately within Vietnam’s borders and have no Christian witness among them! They are very isolated and untouched by the Gospel.

One of these groups is the Khang:

Language: Mon-Khmer
Population: 4,870
Religion: Ancestor Worship, Animism

The Khang in Vietnam are divided into seven subgroups. Although they now believe they are a unique tribe, there seems little doubt that the Khang were once part of the great Khmu race of Laos. The main religious stronghold among them is ancestor worship. They believe each person has five souls. After death, the main soul from the head remains in his family’s house to watch over and protect the family. The soul from the right arm becomes a spirit of the land; from the left arm of the tree that was cut to make the coffin; from the left foot a spirit of the sky; from the right foot a guard of the graveyard. These beliefs have caused a hindrance to the Khang receiving the Gospel, because such a radical change will be perceived as an insult to their ancestors.

Pray for a release from their bondage to ancestor worship and animism, for evangelists to effectively share the Gospel, and for a strong church planting movement to be established.
